“That is just what life is when it is beautiful and happy – a game! Naturally, one can also do all kinds of other things with it, make a duty of it, or a battleground, or a prison, but that does not make it any prettier.” Hermann Hesse, Journey to the East

Jean, based in the Silicon Valley since 1996, currently heads Buzzlogic’s technical vision and architecture, and as Chief Technology Officer is in charge of scaling the company’s platform. He joined Buzzlogic in April 2008, as part of its acquisition of Activeweave, that he co-founded in 2005.

His expertise and interests are primarily focused on the design and development of distributed computing infrastructures and products. He has honed his leadership and software engineering skills over the last 15 years, building large-scale multi-tiered platforms and managing international engineering teams

Buzzlogic develops social media-centric influence discovery algorithms and technology, to unlock the power of conversations and relevance, with applications that help players across the social media ecosystem —businesses, online publishers and the bloggers contributing to influential communities— reap the rewards and engage its constituents.

Prior to running the company’s engineering, Jean co-founded Activeweave, where he served as CTO, building and scaling its contextual, personalized relevance engine. Jean also held Director and Senior Director of Software Engineering positions at Oracle and Symbol Technologies. He holds Masters Degrees in Computer Science from Telecom Paris and the Computer Science Laboratories at the Paris University.

His leadership roles in the software industry have been consistently focused on innovative technologies, ranging from distributed Internet architectures to mobile computing platforms, and have also enabled him to develop robust engineering processes. He has gradually focused on refining the technologies, methodologies and practices conducive to effective collaborative work. Jean initially launched Activeweave to develop and spread information sharing models and efficient user-experience paradigms, and ultimately to build a powerful social sharing and remixing medium, one that fosters an advanced collaboration experience.

« Over the years, my responsibilities leading engineering teams to develop and deliver enterprise-caliber software have turned me into a passionate nurturer of collaboration: the role played by the collaborative dimension in our work is critical. Accurate information dissemination is at the heart of what ultimately makes or breaks any project: designing the right software for instance, relies intimately on a shared understanding of what and how to build; we need to capture and refine better, relevant, up-to-date information, while avoiding the much dreaded overload. I constantly strive to take the lessons learned from that intense work environment and expand the underlying concepts, to augment the web browsing experience of all. »

When he’s not busy with work, Jean can be found kite-boarding or snow-boarding, depending on the season. Needless to say, he’s gotten much, much worse at either activity since founding the company.
